In 1982, I went from Hawaii to Papeete, Tahiti as a competitive outrigger canoe paddler. This is when I met Jeremy Huiotu. We wrote to each other. The last letter I received from him he told me that he was preparing to go for military training. He said he would not go to France as "the others", but would return to Tahiti. I went back to Tahiti the following year to surprise him. But no one knew where he was. Thirty years later I still think of him and wonder what happened to him.
